On Friday 16th Rotarators from Webster University conducted the teaching sessions with a total of 120 grade 4-6 students and made the lessons and presentations very interactive and interesting in a way the students could grasp easily. Lunch was provided by RCRHH and served personally by members who had attended. Day two of the camp on Saturday 17th was delivered by teachers and Rotaractors from Stamford University to the same students, using slightly different techniques to keep the children interested, and who by now were becoming quite proficient in grasping basic complexities of learning English. Once again lunch was provided and served by Rotarians from RCRHH. Both days were very successful and a survey conduced with the students at the end of the two days provided a positive result and showed they would like to have more of these types of events. |
Bea Baumann, Days for GirlsBea Baumann, Days for GirlsOn January 30, Bea Baumann accompanied by her husband Samuel came along to give an update on a recent presentation she had made about the charity Days for Girls, in which she is heavily involved. Bea recapped by explaining that due to poverty, ignorance or cultural obstacles many young women were forced to stop attending school once they began menstruating. They could be abused or ostracised as a result of this and in some cases never returned to any form of education. The charity not only assisted with sex education and personal empowerment among these girls but also provided re-useable sanitary towels to enable them to continue attending school. |
