August 2021 saw the start of another lockdown here in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Cha-am, which involved the closure of most businesses and sporting activities including golf courses.
So, what do golfers do when they cannot play golf, well for some members of the Lake View Golfers Society who play golf at the Imperial Lake View Golf Club when asked to donate the cost of a round of golf to help support the purchase of food and other essential items for the Mercy House Foundation, a children’s home in Pranburi, the golfers not only opened their hearts but their wallets to support this cause.
The society which includes Rotarians Rick Lunstrum and President Phil Lawrence, also a donation from Rotarian Keith Humphreys raised an amazing 50,600 Thai Baht to help feed the 25 Children at Mercy House.
The children’s home which is privately funded was established 27 years ago and is currently home to 25 children, 18 girls and 7 boys. Since the earlier lockdowns and the closure of schools the children have been confined to the home. To provide three nutritious meals a day costs on average 2,500 Thai Baht a day.
Following a shopping trip to Macro at Pranburi by Phil Lawrence and Peter Lawrence (no relation) Two and her mother from the home, eight trollies were filled and 36, 700 Thai Baht was spent with the remaining money handed over to the home for later fresh purchases.
On the funny side those who go to Macro will note that following check out your trollies are checked against the receipt. In this case the receipt was as long as a toilet role and the guy spent 10 minutes looking for a bag of onions.
