Bea Baumann, Days for Girls

On January 30, Bea Baumann accompanied by her husband Samuel came along to give an update on a recent presentation she had made about the charity Days for Girls, in which she is heavily involved. Bea recapped by explaining that due to poverty, ignorance or cultural obstacles many young women were forced to stop attending school once they began menstruating. They could be abused or ostracised as a result of this and in some cases never returned to any form of education. The charity not only assisted with sex education and personal empowerment among these girls but also provided re-useable sanitary towels to enable them to continue attending school.

Bea explained that obtaining flannel was the main problem she experienced and a number of suggestions and offers were made from the members to try and assist. As a result of Bea’s previous talk, the President presented a donation from the club, and Bea proudly showed off a sewing machine she had purchased in Bangkok in anticipation of the award, which she assured members would greatly speed up the process of making the disposable towels.

Finally, Bea appealed for any help for the charity in whatever form, sewing, administration or distribution.
