President's Message December 2021
December 2019

Fellow Rotarians,

December is a Rotary Disease Prevention and Treatment month.

Fighting diseases is one of Rotary’s missions, and what a challenge that has been in the last 2 years both here in Thailand and globally where many Countries are seeing a fourth wave of Covid-19 and we are now witnessing another mutation of the disease coming from South Africa.
Our thoughts are with Rotarians globally who have succumbed to Covid-19 or have lost loved ones over the last two years.

However, let us not forget it is not always the direct impacts of diseases that leave their mark, the long-term financial aspects that successive generations will be paying for, lost education especially in many of the poorer countries, unemployment and mental health issues caused by the above and periods of lockdown.

Let us also take time to think about the millions of health workers globally who have been under immense pressure, working in very difficult conditions, and in poorer countries probably without suitable personal protective equipment and medical facilities to help us fight the disease.
We the Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin like thousands of other clubs around the globe have tried to contribute to supporting hospitals in our local community by purchasing much needed personal protective clothing for Hua Hin Hospital, a cleansing mist sprayer to disinfect work areas, an aspirator and wireless router for the Red Cross Clinic.

In addition, we recently made a donation to help support a young intern Doctor in Tanzania Africa with one of our sister clubs the Rotary Club of Cheltenham in Australia.

The fight against Polio is still Rotary Internationals main goal to eradicate this disease, and world Polio day this year our club purchased 120 goody bags to help those in Quarantine here in Hua Hin, also our members supported Rotaractors who organised a blood drive on the 24th at the Red Cross Clinic.

We are nearing the end of another year, and entering the festive season so as President of this club let me be the first to wish you a very happy Christmas wherever you are in the world, whatever you are doing, and remember stay safe.

Let us hope that 2022 will bring our members together again and continue to support out local communities.

Yours in Rotary.
Phil Lawrence.
President Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin.
