To recognize World Polio Day on 24 October, our Rotarians conducted another community service activity at Ban Khlong Noi Border Patrol Police School in the mountainous region of Pala-U district in Hua Hin. There are 151 students in the school, grades 1 to 6, and the remote village is located about 75 minutes from the Hua Hin city center.
Our Community Service Projects Director Past President Napa started the day by educating the students about the poliovirus, followed by their cleaning of the vegetable garden that provides fresh produce for the school’s kitchen. We also supplied wood planks to repair the fence and the students applied the paint, while the younger kids created artwork to raise awareness on the importance of polio vaccinations. Lunch and ice cream were served to everyone after helping out at their school.
Under the leadership of Captain Suchat, the school practices His Majesty the King’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy instilling self-reliance among the children, and solar power is in place to provide electricity for the school.
The Rotary International theme for October is Economic & Community Development and we aim to help improve the lives of the underprivileged and disadvantaged in our communities.
