Our Rotarians attended the official handover of our newly installed solar power project at Ban Khlong Noi Border Patrol Police School in the mountainous region of Pala-U, Hua Hin on 6 October. The school regularly experiences electrical power failures due to its remote location near the end of the line of the provincial power grid. The 11.7-kWp renewable energy system comprising 18 rooftop solar photovoltaic panels, DA/AC inverter and lithium iron phosphate battery storage, now ensures uninterrupted electricity for the children studying in their Information Technology classroom. This is another one of our joint community service projects completed with our friends of the Stuttgart Aid for Refugee Orphans from Myanmar e.V. (SHFM).
The school educates 139 Thai and Myanmarese students in grades 1 to 6, and is located 60 kilometers east of the land border with Myanmar. The school is very well managed and follows the principles of His Majesty The King’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy for sustainability, and they grow a lot of their own vegetables that are used to prepare the daily meals in their kitchen.
Our club has a longstanding relationship with the school as we’ve conducted many service projects with them over the years, and most recently the construction of both the new security wall and fully-fitted classroom building, in collaboration with other Rotary clubs. Special thanks to the ongoing support from Eva Hoetzel the Chairman of SHFM, Rotarian Gerhard and President-Elect Guenter for bringing this project to fruition in a short timeframe.
Helping children to help themselves as we CREATE LASTING IMPACT for a sustainable future in the spirit of Rotary!
