Rotarians and friends joined our “Ride For Literacy” charity bicycle ride on 3 October, as another fundraising project to expand our club’s educational focus on improving literacy among children. All proceeds generated from the event are earmarked for our “Library for Literacy” project that provides new storybooks for libraries in local schools, and the funds collected have enabled our club to purchase 100 books for each of two schools.
The participants visited the sights of three beautiful bays on the Gulf of Thailand in a 24-kilometer ride along the coast of Prachuap Khirikhan city. Highlights of the tour included visits to the teakwood Buddhist temple “Wat Ao Noi”, Prachuap Historical Museum and City Pillar, a special meeting with the dusky leaf monkey family and Thai-style buffet lunch, and the day culminated with a tour of the Waghor Aquarium.
Special thanks to everyone and especially our member Rotarian Chris with Ms. Gae and the reliable team of Adventure Cycling Thailand for the well-organized program ensuring the day was most memorable and a lot of fun for all.
“Children’s books are a powerful tool enhancing the brain development of a young child, especially their all-important language skills. Stories not only bring happiness and enjoyment, but also add new words to a child’s vocabulary, help them develop and practice their comprehension, and lay the foundation for them to understand the concept of reading.” (UNICEF Thailand, 2024)
