February 2019

Dear Rotarians & Friends,

The month of February is packed with a number of special Rotary events and activities for Community Service and Fellowship. In addition to welcoming many visiting Rotarians and guests from abroad, we look forward to our annual Multi-Rotary Club Family & Friends Night on 8 February, which celebrates the Club Officer Installations of both our Rotaract Clubs; Webster University Thailand and Stamford International University.

Our annual Children’s Day at Panyanakul School will take place on 26 February, providing a great day of fun, games, food and music for the 300+ children with disabilities, so please mark your calendars for this special event co-hosted by the Rotaract Clubs.

This month is also the launch of our campaign to reduce plastic waste in our community, where we will begin visiting local schools to raise awareness of humanity’s impact on the environment. The participating students will receive a reusable shopping bag to use in their daily lives, with special thanks to our Environmental Preservation Committee for spearheading this initiative.

Last month our club entered into a mutual agreement and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Hua Hin Municipality and other local organisations with aim to Love Hua Hin, Preserve the Environment, and Promote Healthy Lifestyles among the general public. Chaired by Hua Hin’s Lord Mayor Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul, all parties agreed to develop the network to co-organise activities to improve the general well-being of our stakeholders while maintaining Hua Hin as a ‘green city’ and popular tourist destination in the Kingdom of Thailand.

We are especially grateful to our Public Image Committee who have volunteered a lot of time to create this monthly Bulletin to inform our members, friends and supportive sponsors of our events and activities.

Also, please browse our Club web site for regular updates and you are always welcome to join us in our fellowship meetings and service activities. I look forward to seeing you there to Be the Inspiration.

Yours in Rotary,

Brian Anderson

RI Monthly Theme for February: Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution

Sixty-five million people are displaced by armed conflict or persecution, and 90 percent of armed-conflict casualties are civilians, half of them children. Through service projects, fellowships, and other Rotary-sponsored campaigns, members train adults and young leaders to prevent and mediate conflict, and aid refugees who have fled dangerous areas. Members also pursue projects to address the underlying structural causes of conflict, including poverty, inequality, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.

Welcome to Hua Hin!
The Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin together with their mother Club the Rotary Club of Hua Hin have been in liaison with the local municipality, and are pleased to announce there is now a new sign at the entrance to the city.  Located close to the airport and Bell Travel Bus Company station, it is situated ideally for people to see when they enter Hua Hin.  The sign is very smart and reflects the good works done by both clubs in the city.
